Frequently Asked Questions
How does the service work?
Our turnaround time from farm to table is quick as we want as little time between harvest and delivery as possible. You will receive a weekly box chilled with ice mats of farm fresh produce on your choice of either Tuesday or Wednesday. Each week we swap out your prior week’s delivery box and ice mats – so remember to put your old box on your doorstep for collection on your delivery day.
What type of produce will I receive?
Our goal is to provide locally grown fruits and vegetables that are from organic and sustainable farms. We always choose locally first, then certified organic and then move to sustainable/IPM/conventional if there are items we’d like to feature that are not available in the organic form. Organic means the harvest has not been processed or grown using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. The food also could not have been produced using genetic engineering, growth hormones, irradiation or antibiotics. Farms must have been free from chemical use for at least three years and subject to inspection before being certified organic, and must undergo frequent soil tests. Crops must also be rotated, which is that the same crop is not grown on the same plot of land year after year. These farms will be our first choice, however, in order to provide a good variety it might be necessary to move to a sustainable product. We will make the best selections based on each farms practices.
What recipes will I get?
Our recipes will focus on how to prepare the various items individually or in combination. Ideas will also include recipes that are kid friendly, gluten-free, for baking, and how to utilize items in smoothies and juices. Our mission is to provide a recipe collection of creative farm to table concepts that can be used again and again.
Is the produce local?
Of course! We support local farmers and work with farms in the NJ, PA and NY area. We deliver local, organic and sustainably farmed produce because it is fresher and requires less fuel to transport.
Do I have to commit to a subscription period?
You will receive a delivery each week, however there is no obligation. You can cancel or opt out at any time. We only ask that you give us notice a week ahead of time so we can adjust our farm orders and routes. You also have the option to “opt out” if you are out of town. Additionally, we do not deliver the weeks of July 4th and Labor Day (see our full schedule on the sign-up page for exact dates).
What if I need to leave for vacation?
You can always “opt out” if you are away. Additionally, if you’d like an alternate delivery address (perhaps a friend or neighbor) it’s no problem to adjust where your box is dropped off. If you need to make special arrangements just let us know and we are happy to accommodate your needs. And don’t forget, the chilled box is perfect for your long weekend beach excursions. We’ll make it easy to take your farm produce with you!
